Create a Website that Sells

Your website (and everything that goes along with it) plays a huge role in whether or not your eBook is a success. Even if your eBook is truly a classic, if visitors are turned off by your website then chances are they won't give your eBook the time of day.

My purpose here is to introduce you to some of the basics that you will need to get your business off the ground: a web host, a domain name, and website design.

Web Hosting

Gone are the days when you had to spend $50 or more each month just to host a few pages somewhere. Now there are literally thousands of web hosting companies competing for your business and the prices just keep getting better and better (although I don't recommend selecting a web host on price alone!)
  • 1and1.com
Based on my experiences with multiple web hosts, this is the only company that I am comfortable recommending. The "Developer Package" is very popular and includes 5 domain names, 2,000 email accounts, no set up fees, and lots of advanced features that you will appreciate. Click Here for more information.

Domain Names

Your domain name is very important and I suggest you go with one that ends in ".com". When you prepare to register your new name, you will be given a chance to make sure that it is still available. If it's gone, don't despair because there are still millions of word combinations available.
  • 1and1.com
Again, 1and1.com is at the head of the pack (check out a few competitors and you will see what I mean.) Their price per domain is extremely low, and each domain you buy includes free private domain registration, a free starter web page, 200 email aliases, and lots more.

Website Design

Designing your website is really not all that hard and there are lots of HTML programs out there to choose from. You may want to closely review sites that are obviously "making the sale" and tailor your efforts after that (without plagiarizing their content, of course!).

If you just don't want to do it yourself, you can hire it done. To find a web developer, go to http://elance.com
  • CuteHTML
This was the first HTML editor that I used and I am very fond of it. It is not fancy but it is easy to work with (plus it has never crashed my system!) This program is multi-featured and they offer a trial version so you can try it before you buy it.

  • Homesite
Although I have never used this software, I have heard great things about it, including that it is easy to use and has an exhaustive features list. They also offer a free trial so you may want to check it out.

More Great Stuff

  • SBI!
Site Build It! is a complete web site building option, and includes domain name registration, web site hosting, search engine optimization, traffic statistics, and lots more.

  • Sales Letter Generator
Not any good at writing "copy"? Sales Letter Generator writes the copy for you, as well as creating full websites (complete with header graphics), and even inserts your order links.

  • Affiliate Link Cloaker
This is some pretty neat software that prevents your affiliate links from being "hijacked" or "bypassed".

Be sure to check out my web page on how to market your eBook. You'll pick up lots of great ideas on how to make plenty of sales. (I mean, that's why you wrote an eBook, right?!)
